Friday

I'm really concerned about widespread social conflict. I remember the sixties and seventies with assassinations, riots, protests and high violence in the cities. It scarred my youth and I never wanted to see it happen again. I worry for the America we're leaving for our children. This campaign has been so ugly that it was clear that deep divisions were being revealed. I know that the racism and misogyny have been present but we all agreed to ignore it and work around it. That's not possible now. (On either side of the division) I don't think it will be easy to go back to the social agreements we've been living by in recent times. Just like in a class, manners provide a gloss and way of interacting that follows the "rules". Once Mr. Trump abandoned manners, it was down hill. President-elect Trump has to step up and provide leadership and show what he will do to knit the country back together again. He can't just do all the things he promised and think that there won't be social unrest. I don't want to see him attempt to rule by sending soldiers into the cities; I had enough of that. So let's pray for our country and our citizens and all the children.
