Happy New Year

December 31 is Always a Bit Sad

It's a time to review the year and that's not always great. But for me, 2014 was blessings and light. I got to retire from my career, we traveled in our Volkswagen bus to Newfoundland from Albuquerque, and we visited family and friends. But most of all, I got to spend a couple of months with my 84 year old mother. It was always on my mind that I wanted to have extended visits with her - well, I lucked out. Living far away from family is one of the challenges of attempting to "braid" Hawaii and New Mexico.

Spending this amount of time with my mother was like going back to childhood with my eyes wide open. I knew enough to appreciate every moment. Sometimes, we'd just sit on the sofa and watch La Gata, a Spanish language soap opera and dunk ourselves in our shared love.
